Sometimes before sending photos for printing, you need to place several images together and create what is called acollageor design. It may seem difficult, but with a few simple tips you can arrange your photos correctly, share them online, and even use them for printing.
For photobook collage design, especially InBook and InBook Plus, there are several important points to follow. Continue reading for the key tips:

Spacing Between Images

The most important point in photo collage design is to leave space between images. Keep a 2 to 3 mm gap between images placed next to each other. White is usually the best spacing colour. You can choose another colour, but non-white spacing can look poor after printing.

Number of Photos and Layout

The number of photos on each designed page is a matter of taste. For a better printed collage, use one image on one page and 3 to 4 related or even unrelated images on the opposite page. We do not recommend putting too many photos on a single page because it will not improve thephotobookor your design and may reduce the impact of your images. If you do not have the time or confidence to choose and arrange the images yourself, our InBook design team can help.

Suitable Software for Photo Collage

Choosing the right software for collage design is a broad topic. Our InBook team explains it separately, but in short: most mobile design apps are optimized for social sharing and phone screens, not high-quality printing. Start with a square output, preferably 1:1, and pay attention to pixel dimensions and quality.

Collage Output Size

If the images are only for keepsakes or social sharing, output quality is less critical. But if you want to use them foran InBook photobookor other printed products, the final file must be square andat least 2000x2000 pixels for InBook, or 3000x3000 pixels for InBook Plus.
If you design in Photoshop, create square files sized 21x21 cm for InBook and 30x30 cm for InBook Plus. Set resolution to 300 dpi and colour mode to RGB.

Full-Page Images

When printingphotobooksthe InBook team normally adds an 8 mm white margin to every image. If that margin is already included in your collage, some images can be printed full-page. Check our samples to see how this works.
